If you have installed CCTV System several times, you would know sometimes cameras easily have problems with light exposure, which leads to bad footage or images. Through our first training session, we brought you useful information on 3 significant features related to light exposure that each installer should know.
Highlight Compensation (HLC)
Backlight compensation is a function created unnecessarily due to overexposure to strong light (such as a headlight or spotlight). This function detects strong light sources in the video and compensates for the exposure at these points to improve the overall quality. HLC is very useful for preventing CCTV cameras from being blocked by spotlights at night. The ability to read the license plate is a function of the surveillance cameras installed in parking lots and entrances that almost everyone wants and expects. If there is no HLC, because of the bright nature, this is simply impossible. Nowadays, due to the HLC type used in most CCTV cameras, it is possible to reduce the glare in the video to some extent and allow the license plate to be displayed. When approaching a vehicle ahead or slowly moving a parked vehicle. For vehicles with speeds exceeding 8 km/h, this function is essential. We recommend using real license plate capture cameras specifically designed for this purpose and with the best results, as they have other features than HLC that can help hijack tellers. One of these functions is to control the shutter speed.
Backlight Compensation (BLC)
Backlight compensation is a feature that camera manufacturers have used for some time: when someone sits in front of a window or walks in from the outside, there is a lot of natural light behind. The camera absorbs all the natural light behind it in its direction, so the subject or person in the foreground becomes very dark, almost like a silhouette. The digital signal processor (DSP) in the surveillance camera provides functions to optimize the foreground and background exposure of the security video. Divide the video scene into different areas and use different exposures for each area. Correct areas with very high or very low light levels to maintain a normal, acceptable light level for the focused subject. However, it is important to note that BLC has its limitations in exposure compensation when there is a great difference in the illumination between the foreground and the background. In order to get the best results, the following WDR is the most needed feature.
Wide Dynamic Range (WDR)
Cameras have problems with underexposure and overexposure because they can only accurately record the average light range between very dark and very bright. Cameras with WDR technology have advanced sensors that can create a larger illuminated area and allow them to record from a greater depth of light.
The WDR camera can not only capture a larger illuminated area more accurately but also provides two other options to compensate for the light to obtain a better image: with the help of tone mapping, the camera or software can automatically adjust light and dark areas for a perfect scene with different exposure levels. This will create the same overexposed and underexposed images, which will be composited by the camera. Take the most balanced part of the two images and create a recorded image of what you see. This method requires a very fast and photosensitive sensor. However, this function only available on modern professional cameras, which refers to IP cameras.
Wide dynamic range cameras are ideal for many challenging lighting situations:
- Halls and exhibition spaces with many windows, the contrast between natural light and indoor light creates bright and dark areas.
- Indoor recording, where the light in the background when doors are open, which makes the object becomes dark.
- Night-time areas where non-infrared lighting will overexpose certain areas and darken others
WHY TRAINING SESSIONS ARE IMPORTANT FOR SECURITY INSTALLERS?
After establishing for 20 years, we know that is important for security installers to understand the features of cameras and related tactics to consult with their customers. As a professional CCTV wholesaler, Trantech determines that the periodical training is not only useful for installers to know their field but also beneficial for them to convince the end-users and win bigger projects.
That is why we created training sessions, starting with the first one – fundamental knowledge about analog and IP camera to help attendees synchronize all their knowledge and practical experiences. Training is the primary ways through which the performance of installers and the satisfaction of end-users are matched.
The Goal of Trantech’s First training sessions
At our first training session, Trantech led all attendees to go through the following contents:
- The similarity and difference between analog and IP cameras
- The features of analog and IP cameras
- All steps to set up a CCTV system with IP camera and NVR
- Briefly introduced IP cameras with Active Deterrence feature
- How to set up a CCTV system on the phone
- Issues and tricks of a standard CCTV system
Explanation of product features – A corner of the trial room
Attendees were self-practising with devices and software |
One-on-One Help with the installation process |
Hence, our goals by this first training are to see all our precious customers:
- Be able to determine which cameras should be chosen when liaising with end-users or when working on the bidding process
- Be confident to understand all significant features of popular CCTV System and give the right advice to end-users in the shortest time
- Be able to run the software for all devices on all platforms without basic issues
- Be able to win more jobs and bigger projects
- Be happy to understand Trantech’s effort to help you with everything to get your job done perfectly
If you are ready to experience the benefits of CCTV training and deliver the type of information that your end-users want and deserve, which helps you win the job, we can help you get started.
